Ingredients:

Banana Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), at room temperature
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 4 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Glaze:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Preparation:

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan to ensure easy removal of the bread.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the brown sugar and room-temperature butter until the mixture is light and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: To the sugar mixture, add the sour cream, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract. Beat until everything is well combined.
  5. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing to ensure a tender crumb.
  6. Bake the Bread: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Make the Glaze: While the bread is cooling, prepare the salted caramel glaze. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and butter. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring continuously until the sugar has fully dissolved, about 1 minute.
  8. Finish the Glaze: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the heavy cream. Add the powdered sugar and kosher salt, mixing until the glaze is smooth and well combined. Let the glaze cool for about 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  9. Glaze the Bread: Once the bread has cooled, pour the salted caramel glaze over the top, allowing it to drizzle down the sides. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Why You’ll Love This Salted Caramel Banana Bread

Perfectly Moist and Flavorful

The combination of sour cream and ripe bananas ensures a moist and tender bread, while the brown sugar adds a depth of sweetness that complements the cinnamon and vanilla perfectly.

Irresistible Salted Caramel Glaze

The homemade salted caramel glaze takes this banana bread to the next level. Its rich, buttery flavor with a hint of salt perfectly balances the sweetness of the bread.

Easy and Impressive

This recipe is straightforward and easy to follow, making it perfect for both novice and experienced bakers. The end result is an impressive loaf that looks as good as it tastes.

Tips for the Best Banana Bread

  • Use Overripe Bananas: The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your bread will be. Look for bananas with plenty of brown spots.
  • Avoid Overmixing: Mixing the batter just until the dry ingredients are incorporated will prevent the bread from becoming tough.
  • Cool Before Glazing: Make sure the bread is completely cool before adding the glaze to prevent it from melting and running off.
