Ingredients

For the patties:

  • 1.3–1.5 lbs ground chuck
  • 1 Tbsp McCormick Grill Mates “Montreal Steak Seasoning”
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 Tbsp A1 Steak Sauce

For assembly (customize to taste):

  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Sautéed onions & mushrooms
  • Sliced cheese
  • Pickles
  • Ketchup, mayo, or your favorite condiments

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties:
    • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
    • In a mixing bowl, combine ground chuck with steak seasoning, shredded mozzarella, and A1 Steak Sauce. Mix until just combined.
    • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each into a patty about ⅓ inch thick, pressing a small indentation in the center with your thumb to prevent puffing during cooking.
  2. Grill the Patties:
    • Place the patties on the preheated grill. For medium-well burgers, cook for about 6 minutes per side.
    • Avoid pressing down on the patties to retain their natural juices. For a crosshatch pattern, rotate each patty halfway through cooking on each side.
    • Add a slice of cheese during the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt.
  3. Rest and Assemble:
    • Remove the patties from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes to lock in the juices.
    • Assemble the burgers: Spread condiments on the bottom bun, then layer lettuce, onion, tomato, the cooked patty with cheese, and any additional toppings. Finish with the top bun, also dressed with condiments if desired.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Bursting with Flavor: The seasoning blend and A1 Steak Sauce enhance the beef’s natural taste, while mozzarella adds a creamy texture.
  • Easy to Customize: From toppings to condiments, tailor each burger to personal preferences.
  • Juicy and Tender: The indentation trick ensures even cooking and prevents dry patties.

Tips

  • Patty Thickness: Make the patties slightly larger than the buns as they shrink during cooking.
  • Resting is Key: Allowing the burgers to rest ensures the juices redistribute evenly for maximum flavor.
  • Cheese Options: Swap mozzarella for cheddar, Swiss, or pepper jack for a different flavor profile.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Protein Alternatives: Substitute ground chuck with turkey, chicken, or a plant-based alternative.
  • Seasonings: Try smoky paprika, garlic powder, or a pinch of cayenne for added depth.
  • Toppings: Add avocado slices, crispy bacon, or a fried egg for extra indulgence.

FAQs

Q: Can I cook these burgers on a stovetop?
A: Yes, use a cast-iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and cook for the same duration, flipping once.

Q: Can I make the patties ahead of time?
A: Absolutely! Shape the patties and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours or freeze for longer storage.

Q: How can I tell if the burgers are cooked to my desired doneness?
A: Use a meat thermometer. Medium-well is achieved at 160°F.

Serving and Suggestions
