Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh salmon
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter, divided
- Fresh lemon juice to taste
Sauce:
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
1. Prepare the Salmon:
Remove the salmon from the fridge 15-20 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature. Cut the salmon into four equal pieces and pat each piece dry with a paper towel. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
2. Heat the Skillet:
Add the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter to a skillet and heat over medium-high heat for a few minutes until the pan is hot.
3. Make the Sauce:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, cornstarch, and garlic powder. Set aside.
4. Cook the Salmon:
Place the salmon in the skillet, skin-side down, and cook for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium, flip the salmon, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until almost cooked through.
5. Add the Sauce:
Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet and let it melt. Pour the prepared sauce between the salmon pieces. Allow it to bubble and thicken for about 30 seconds, then remove the skillet from the heat. Flip the salmon over and spoon the sauce over each piece.
6. Finish with Lemon:
Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the salmon (about one wedge) and serve immediately. The crispy skin is delicious when eaten right away, but you can peel it off if you prefer.
Notes:
- The salmon used in this recipe is about 1 inch thick. Adjust the cooking time if your salmon is thicker or thinner.
- A little over a pound of salmon is fine, but avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper cooking.
