Ingredients
- 8 ounces medium uncooked pasta shells
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 1/3 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup heavy/whipping cream
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Cook the Pasta:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta shells according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. Sauté the Onion:
While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until it starts to brown.
3. Brown the Beef:
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 5 minutes. If there is excess fat, spoon most of it out.
4. Add Garlic and Chili Powder:
Stir in the minced garlic and chili powder. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
5. Make the Sauce:
Add the tomato sauce and beef broth to the skillet. Stir well to combine and let it simmer gently for 4-5 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce slightly without drying out.
6. Add the Cream:
Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the cream warm through, then add the drained pasta shells to the skillet. Toss to coat the pasta in the sauce.
7. Serve:
Serve the creamy beef and shells immediately, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
