Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • 4 chicken breast halves
  • ½ cup pickle juice
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying

For the breading:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1–2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for a spicy kick)

For the sandwich:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Pickle slices, lettuce, tomato, and cheese slices, for topping

For the Chick-fil-A sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 3 tsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp barbecue sauce (hickory recommended)
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: Combine pickle juice and water in a ziplock bag. Add chicken breasts and marinate for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  2. Prepare the sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Mix the breading: In a large bowl, combine flour, powdered sugar, paprika, black pepper, chili powder, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Prepare egg wash: In another bowl, whisk together milk and egg.
  5. Heat oil: Pour 2–3 cups of oil into a large saucepan and heat to 350°F.
  6. Coat the chicken: Remove chicken from marinade, dip into egg mixture, then coat in flour mixture. For extra crunch, repeat this “double-dip” step: dip again into the egg mixture and coat with flour once more.
  7. Fry chicken: Fry each piece in hot oil for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Assemble the sandwiches: Toast the buns. Spread Chick-fil-A sauce on both sides. Layer lettuce, tomato, cheese, and the crispy chicken. Top with pickles, cover, and serve immediately.
